Busy moms have it tough – with such a hectic lifestyle — working out is usually one of the first things to get axed off the calendar.
You may long for your single days when you had time to hit the gym, multiple times a week and take all those spinning classes.
Instead of grieving the past, realize you can work out right where you are, without adding additional stress and chaos to your life.
And if you’re looking for tips on how to work out while living your everyday life, we’ve got you covered!
Here are 3 simple ways to work out for busy moms on the go:
1. Walk It Out:
Adding even 20 minutes of extra walk time to your day will help give you an extra boost of endorphins, you’ll be amazed at the energy you feel.
We know, you’re busy.
But there are little ways you can sneak some extra pavement time into your day.
Try taking the stairs (yes all floors), instead of the elevator. Or, consider parking further back in the parking lot, instead of the very front (just make sure wherever you park is well lit).
During your workday, time short breaks and walk around. Just stretching and moving your body is beneficial.
If you’re looking to grab coffee, and the shop is a few blocks away, try walking, instead of instinctively getting in the car.
These acts might seem simple, but they’ll help get you in the habit of walking more and start to build your endurance.
If you didn’t get a chance to walk during the day, ask your hubby to watch the kids, and go for a walk at night – or even better, grab a stroller and take your kids along with you!
2. Make It A Family Affair:
Who said working out had to be boring and painful?
Look for fun activities to involve your entire family!
Consider spending the day walking the zoo and visiting all the animals, or spend the day in the park and take up a game of family kickball or flag football.
But remember moms, if you choose to be outside, don’t forget to wear tick repellent and check for ticks when you leave the park.
If it’s too cold to be outside, consider spending a few hours at an indoor trampoline center, or a rock climbing gym.
And don’t forget roller-skating and ice skating!
You’ll be known as the cool mom who always has fun activities planned while getting your own personal workout at the same time.
Double bonus!
3. Supermarket Sweep:
The grocery store is full of countless opportunities to work it out.
Try lifting the heavy items a few times before you put them in the cart.
Or do a few lunges down the aisle.
Don’t worry about what others think! Who knows, you just might start a trend.
Parents listed a great way to do bicep curls, even while waiting in line:
“Hold two of the same can or bottle, one in each hand. Bring your elbows into your sides, then bend them so they are at a 90-degree angle, palms holding the cans or bottles up. Slowly bring your hands toward your shoulders to complete the curl, then slowly bring them down.
While standing in line: Do curls on one side at a time (unless you’re buying two of the same can or bottle) or mix it up with small pulses on each side. With your elbow bent at 90 degrees, palm holding the can or bottle up, pulse an inch up and down until your arm tires. Repeat on the other side.”
Moms, you may not have two hours to spend at the gym, but you can add little things to your day to help burn extra calories.
And get creative!
Think outside the box, like a family dance party, or backyard games like red light, green light.
By adding workout activities to your day, you’re practicing good self-care, and training yourself to add discipline to your life, while having fun!
