There are millions of weight loss tips available on the internet, with people making even more money off of the lies.
Between Big Pharma companies pushing weight loss pills and celebrities like the Kardashians promoting detox teas, there are countless toxic ways to lose weight.
But it’s been proven that the research on things like detox teas is minimal, and the cons far outweigh the benefits.
According to health.com, many of these “miracle” detox teas just encourage the purchaser to drink water to lose water weight, and are meaningless plugs from which celebrities profit.
“While there are some published studies on various ingredients often found in detox teas, I haven’t seen any research on the teas themselves, particularly in the precise formulas they’re prescribed (that research isn’t required for the teas to be sold, by the way). That means that using detox teas leaves unanswered questions about if and how they work, how they should be used, how much may be too much, and possibly who shouldn’t use them. If you’re unsure, or are planning to start drinking them, talk to your doctor, nutritionist, or health care provider. Just be sure he or she doesn’t have a vested interest in the sale of the product you’re considering: If they happen to be selling or endorsing it, seek a second opinion.”
Seek a second opinion, or check out these tips on how to lose weight in a healthy, doable way—one where you won’t be dropping hundreds of dollars a month or starving yourself.
Here’s 10 ways to lose weight without ruining your lifestyle:
- Don’t do a detox or cleanse. You’ll just end up starving and lacking in nutrients.
- No food can be off limits. Do you want a donut? Eat half of it—just enough to satisfy the craving.
- Start small by eating healthier foods and smaller portions. Don’t skip breakfast either!
- Exercise is important, but it doesn’t mean you need to start running five miles every day. Start with some yoga, which has some truly amazing mental and physical health benefits!
- And don’t skip workouts! Swap that strength training for 15-minutes of meditation and yoga if you need to.
- Make healthier decisions when eating out. Instead of choosing a burger or something fried and heavy, choose a salad with a small side of those delicious french fries. It’s all about balance.
- Don’t equate snacking with taking a break. Everyone is guilty of procrastinating work by going to the break room and snacking—next time, go for a short walk or chug some water.
- And make healthier snack choices! Choose trail mixes, fresh fruits and veggies, pretzels, and even baked chips if you absolutely need them.
- Find some positive people to hang around—there is no sense in having negative people putting you down while you’re working on being your best self!
- Drink water. Drink water. Drink water. Thirsty? Drink some water.
- Get some killer workout clothes, and you’ll be ready to show off at the gym in no time.
- Get into a morning routine, one which supports exercising.
- Extreme diets don’t always work, but there are some serious benefits to following a plant-based diet, or practicing Keto in a safe manner.
- Most people can’t afford a personal trainer, but there are thousands of workout videos on YouTube which are incredibly motivational. One of our favorites? Casey Ho from Blogilates! Check out her page here:
- Remember that change doesn’t happen overnight, and that being healthy is a lifestyle. Don’t compromise your happiness for weight loss—instead, choose what healthy things make you happy.
