Hotels are looking to save a buck, so they’re cutting back on what used to be standard amenities for all guests.
But instead of reducing your bill – hotel accommodations are more expensive than ever.
From axing free breakfasts to even taking away your bathtub – here is a list of several hotel amenities that are on their way to extinction.
Individual Toiletries
You can thank the environmentalists for this one.
Apparently, “saving the earth” by reducing plastic trumps personal hygiene of guests.
And having guests use communal soap dispensers instead of individual (and sanitary) toiletries seems to be the solution.
But not only are communal soap dispensers disgusting…
… they can be dangerous.
People are crazy and they just love to tamper with things.
As Proud American Traveler previously reported, one girl learned this lesson the hard way when she bought a bottle of conditioner from the store – later to learn the conditioner had allegedly been mixed with hair remover, reported Fox 10 Phoenix.
Sadly, she found this out only after she washed her hair…
… and it started to fall out in clumps.
Yeah, no thanks.
So make sure to pack your own toiletries for your next trip…
… unless you want to risk washing your hair with a mysterious substance mounted to the wall.
Bathtubs
So much for a luxurious and relaxing soak in the tub.
Hotels are claiming bathtubs aren’t “hygienic” – so they’re looking to do away with them.
I mean – you could have your hotel staff actually clean them between guests…
… but as we’ve previously reported, hotel rooms don’t really get cleaned that well between guests, so it’s not too surprising that bathtubs are a nasty breeding ground for germs.
Fresh Towels
Remember the days when you could come back to your hotel room after a long day out and find fresh towels and clean sheets?
Yeah, those days are nearly over.
Hotels are striving to become more “green” and apparently that means they think you need to reuse dirty towels and washcloths to help the environment.
Some places will change your towels daily if you ask – but others flat out refuse.
As if the small, dingy towels weren’t bad enough – now they expect you to reuse them for the duration of your stay.
Complimentary Breakfast
Ahh, the good old days of rolling out of bed and venturing downstairs to score a hot cup of coffee and have somebody else make you a customized omelet and waffle combination.
Well you can kiss those days goodbye.
Some blame it on new “safety” restrictions, other hotels admit they’re just trying to save money.
Regardless of the true reason, the days of scoring a complimentary breakfast are coming to an end.
Even Hilton Honors did away with their infamous free breakfast in all U.S. Hilton hotels – though they’ve offered a daily food and beverage credit for their Hilton Gold and Diamond members.
So what CAN you expect from your hotel on your next trip?
Not much.
Perhaps (if you’re lucky) a somewhat clean room…
… and if you do your research, you can increase your chances of getting a hotel without bed bugs.
But as for feeling pampered and spoiled by the hotel staff – those days are long gone.
