As you’re packing your suitcase for your next trip – you may not think too much about the clothes you select.
But if you wear these items while traveling – not only will they make you miserable – they could even get you killed.
So no matter how tempted you are to bring these 5 items on your next trip – don’t do it!
Uncomfortable Shoes
A vacation is NOT the time to break in a new pair of shoes!
Yes, they may be new and shiny.
Or the perfect accessory to your outfit.
But limping around town with blisters on your feet and heels is not the way to enjoy your trip.
You’ll end up miserable (and likely barefoot) and it will slow down your entire itinerary.
Flashy Jewelry
Are you trying to get mugged?
Or shot?
As much as you want to show off your diamond bracelet or Rolex watch – doing so will draw attention to yourself – and not in a good way.
Even if you’re broke and that is the only expensive thing you own – you’ll be a target for thieves.
You’re already a target simply by being an American.
Keep the expensive jewelry at home.
Skimpy Clothes
Depending on where you travel – even wearing a sleeveless shirt can be offensive and send the wrong message.
Some cultures wrongly view American women as “easy” – and if you wear clothes showing off skin, it only reinforces that message – and could put you in a dangerous situation.
It may not seem “fair” that you should have to alter the way you dress to appease a culture, but it’s just the way it is.
And while you may find it annoying – it truly is a sign of respect – and a safeguard for you.
This doesn’t mean you need to wear a turtleneck…
… but it does mean you may need to leave the strappy tank top and short-shorts at home.
Obvious “I’m An American” Gear
Are you proud to be an American?
Hey – we love ‘Merica just as much as the next guy.
And while you may want to show off your American pride overseas by sporting your Trump hat and ‘Don’t Tread on Me’ shirt – just don’t.
It’s not that being an American is shameful – it’s the greatest thing ever!
But when you draw obvious attention to the fact that you’re an American, you make yourself a target to get mugged.
All Americans are deemed as being wealthy – regardless if you are or not.
So if you let every local know you’re American – you will be a target.
Love it. Hate it. It’s just the reality.
Large Backpacks
Travel light.
Some places don’t even allow large backpacks… not to mention, carrying your precious cargo on your back makes it easier for thieves to gain access.
You may think you can feel if someone is reaching into your bag to rob you – but remember – thieves are better at being thieves than you are.
Stick to a crossbody bag instead.
Keep It Simple
When traveling, keep your wardrobe simple.
Bring a few tasteful pieces of clothing you can mix and match and create many outfits from.
Not only will your luggage load be lighter and save you the fee from having to check a bag – but it will be easier to figure out what to wear each day as you head out.
