Perhaps you’ve promised yourself you’d “set your alarm extra early” to get up and cook a healthy breakfast…
… but the truth is you’re so exhausted that an extra 30 minutes of sleep sounds better than a healthy breakfast.
So you get up with barely enough time to brush your teeth and head out the door.
As Better Change Project reports:
As for a healthy breakfast?
Forget it.
Chances are you either grab a carb-filled muffin (which makes you feel worse) or grab something like a banana (that won’t even fill you up).
Or even worse, you are desperate for a hot breakfast and stop at the local fast-food joint yet again… and eat nearly half of your days calories at breakfast.
We get it – you are busy!
But you don’t have to sacrifice your health in the process.
Here are some healthy breakfast ideas for busy folks on the go.
Eggs Are Your Friend
Organic free-range eggs cost about $4.00 a carton– and can literally provide your breakfast for the entire week!
You might not have time to cook scrambled eggs or omelets in the morning – but there are a few ways you can prepare the night before.
Consider boiling a few eggs and peeling them and place them in the refrigerator.
In the morning, you can simply sprinkle some sea salt and fresh pepper on them – and literally eat them as you are headed out the door.
Or, to meal prep for the week, you can use a baking pan and make “egg muffins.”
Just use beaten eggs mixed together with your favorite meat and veggies and bake them in a muffin pan.
You can refrigerate these egg muffins (or freeze them) and simply heat them up in the morning.
Super easy!
Leftover Dinner
It might sound a bit crazy and unconventional– but sometimes heating up leftovers from dinner makes the perfect breakfast!
Other countries often eat tortillas, beans, and meat for breakfast.
Having “breakfast food” is a totally foreign concept for them.
Consider living a little and doing something a bit different.
If you don’t have time to heat up your food and eat it at home – just bring it to the office!
Heating up some rice, eggs, and meat will give you healthy nutrients to start your day.
Sure, you might get a few judgmental looks – but who cares!
Smoothie (The Healthy Way)
If you’re like me and typically not hungry in the morning, you really can’t go wrong with the smoothie – if you make it right.
Try and avoid throwing a ton of fruit into your smoothie – although fruit is healthy it is high in sugar.
To add a little bit of sweetness – select fruits like strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries.
If possible – avoid fruits like bananas and mangos as they have a lot of sugar.
Of course, this is the perfect time to add in your favorite greens like kale or spinach.
Hardcore health nuts use water as the base but for the rest of us who need something a bit more creamier – unsweetened coconut or almond milk is a good choice.
If you love your smoothies ice-cold, keep your fruit stored in the freezer for a fresh cool burst.
Even if you are rushed – it’s important to start your day off right.
If you truly are not a breakfast person, stick to basic nutrients like a smoothie, or even a homemade protein shake.
Of course, you can never go wrong with bulletproof coffee (coffee, butter, and coconut oil) blended together! Bulletproof coffee is quick to make, and it is filling.
But whatever you decide – skip the fast-food restaurants at all costs.
Your waistline (and your wallet) will thank you.
