“But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay”. Matthew 28:5-6
Imagine the astonishment when those who went to visit Jesus’s tomb saw that it was empty!
The hope of Easter is a reminder to the world that God is faithful to keep His promises, and death doesn’t have the last say.
In fact, the Christian faith hedges on God fulfilling His promise – that Jesus would pay the price for our sins and be resurrected – showing the world He has defeated death.
Jesus’s conquering of sin and death reveals God accepted His ultimate sacrifice on the cross as the final payment for the sins of the world.
Many in the world worship false gods who die, and remain dead.
But what separates Jesus from all the others is He died AND rose again – we worship a LIVING Savior!
He didn’t stay trapped inside a tomb, He has risen, just as He said He would.
As Christians, we rejoice that death could not hold Him.
Jesus’s resurrection fulfills God’s promise to the world and points to a kingdom that is to come.
And of course, that those of us who have placed our faith in Him as our Lord and Savior are fully justified by His blood which paid the price for our sins.
Desiring God reported:
“At the heart of saving faith in Jesus is believing that God raised him from the dead. Now when God raised Jesus from the dead, he was vindicating Jesus. He was demonstrating to the world that he was innocent of the charges against him and that death had no rightful hold on him. Romans 4:25 tells us that Jesus was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.
Because Jesus rose from the dead, we who are joined to him by faith are justified. We are declared not guilty in God’s court of law.”
While here on earth we have death and sickness, Jesus’s resurrection points us to the hope of heaven – that for those of us who believe in Him, we will one day rise again too.
And on that day, we will have new bodies and reign forever with Him for eternity.
Easter is a beautiful celebration of victory and a reminder that our God is not dead, He’s alive!
May we rejoice and celebrate the miracle of His resurrection and the fulfilment of God’s promise to His people.
And may we confidently continue to labor for His kingdom, spreading the Good News of the Gospel to the world and pointing to the truth of what Jesus’s death and resurrection truly means, and knowing that our labor is not in vain.
Have a blessed and safe Easter!
