Seasoned travelers are always looking for unique and inspiring places to travel around the world.
The smell of the Mediterranean Sea while you lounge on the white sands of Cala Mitjana in Spain or hiking the enchanted forests of the Red Woods in California are definitely experiences to add to your bucket list.
But when the typical vacation to a crowded beach or a popular park loses its luster, try strapping in for a once-in-a-lifetime experience that is, literally, out of this world!
As a kid, you probably watched alien and sci-fi movies with awe and wonder as you tried to replicate the puffy spacesuits and giant slow, careful steps.
Exploring new territories beyond our universe used to be only for the select, highly-trained few – and Hollywood.
However, with modern technology – and a load of money – everyday citizens can now fly to the moon in their very own spaceship.
Talk about your childhood dreams coming true!
But are roundtrip tickets to the moon pricey? Oh yeah they are!
Fortunately, one incredibly generous and extraordinarily rich Japanese man is looking for eight (very lucky) individuals to join him aboard Elon Musk’s SpaceX rocket, reports Insider.
Billionaire Yusaku Maezawa is offering this all-expenses paid journey to applicants who can convince him that a trip to the moon will expand their artistic endeavors.
But Maezawa says his plan “evolved” to include anyone who considers their work to be “art” – in order to be more inclusive, of course.
“Who do I mean by artist?” Maezawa said to Insider. “The more I thought about it the more ambiguous it became.”
Those chosen are also required to “support” the crew in their “aspirations.”
Maezawa has a few years to decide which applicants he will choose for this adventure.
The SpaceX rocket is set to blast off in 2023 with a total of 10-12 passengers according to the #dearmoon mission Maezawa has advertised.
“I hope together we can make it a fun trip,” he said.
Well, as long as the mission doesn’t take a Hollywood turn and you’re met with an alien invasion or total destruction, of course it’s going to be fun!
So if you’ve been writing in your journal since you were a kid about going to the moon, or have already conquered Mt. Everest and are looking for the next big thrill, you have until March 14th to register for the opportunity.
Insider reports, “The application process requires a name, country, email address, and profile picture. Next, an initial screening process will begin March 21, followed by final interviews and medical checkups in late May.”
It is both amazing and terrifying at the same time to think that vacation travel is expanding beyond the Earth’s atmosphere and into outer space.
For those of us who don’t make the cut, at the very least it will be fascinating to scroll through the Instagram feed of those onboard the SpaceX rocket!
